Oudtshoorn Municipality Temporary Firefighter Vacancies 2025

Oudtshoorn Municipality is calling on dedicated and physically fit individuals to join its Fire and Emergency Services division as Temporary Firefighters. A total of 16 positions are available for 2025, offering an exciting opportunity to serve the community and gain valuable firefighting experience.

Closing Date: 15 August 2025
Salary: R5,555.10 per month
Location: Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, South Africa


Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for these positions, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 (attach proof)
  • 1-year operational experience in a relevant environment
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s licence (an added advantage)
  • Firefighter 1 – NFPA 1001 Certification (attach proof)
  • Hazmat Awareness – NFPA 472 Certification (attach proof)
  • Valid First Aid Level 3 (attach proof)

Additional Requirements

Applicants must also:

  • Be physically and mentally fit (attach a medical note)
  • Meet NFPA 1582 medical test compliance (attach a medical note)
  • Have no criminal record
  • Not be afraid of heights and not suffer from claustrophobia
  • Possess good communication skills
  • Be proficient in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape

Physical Fitness Tests

Candidates will need to successfully complete the following assessments:

  • 2.4 km run
  • Push-ups and sit-ups
  • Hose drags
  • Drum carry
  • High test
  • Claustrophobic test
  • Swimming test

Key Performance Areas

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Rendering fire, emergency, and rescue services
  • Taking part in fire prevention inspections and awareness programmes
  • Cleaning and maintaining fire station buildings, vehicles, and equipment
  • Participating in regular training, drills, and physical exercises
  • Completing administrative duties such as logbooks, incident reports, and occurrence books
  • Conducting daily inspections of firefighting and rescue equipment
  • Performing standby and overtime duties when required
  • Working shifts and being available for overtime at short notice
  • Assisting in compiling emergency-related reports
