Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 plus a National Diploma in Internal Auditing
  • An Advanced Diploma or BTech in Internal Auditing will be an added advantage
  • Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS)
  • Understanding of corporate governance principles
  • Basic knowledge of the local government financial environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years of age
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must not have previously participated in an Internal Audit Internship Programme
  • Willingness to sign an internship agreement

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be trained and exposed to a wide range of internal audit functions, including:

  • Performing internal audit tasks in line with the approved audit programme
  • Assisting the Chief Audit Executive with the implementation of the internal audit plan
  • Reviewing internal controls, accounting procedures, and risk management processes
  • Evaluating compliance with the MFMA and other applicable legislation
  • Examining the reliability and integrity of financial and operational information
  • Reviewing municipal systems for compliance with policies, laws, and regulations
  • Conducting periodic verification of municipal assets
  • Evaluating the efficiency, economy, and effectiveness of municipal operations
  • Reviewing municipal programmes against set goals and objectives

Conditions of Appointment

The internship appointment will be subject to the following conditions:

  • Internship duration is two years
  • Performance will be monitored and assessed on a regular basis
  • Appointment is subject to verification of qualifications and criminal record checks
