Eskom invites talented South African students to apply for its Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year. This prestigious initiative is designed to support academically deserving youth pursuing studies in various Engineering disciplines at Universities and Universities of Technology across the country.
About the Eskom Bursary Programme 2026
As South Africa’s leading electricity public utility, Eskom is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of engineers and technical specialists. Through its annual bursary scheme, Eskom continues to invest in the development of young professionals who will contribute to the country’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
For the 2026 academic year, a total of 138 bursaries will be awarded — 79 for University degree studies and 59 for University of Technology diploma studies.
The bursary provides comprehensive financial support to students who exhibit exceptional academic performance and a strong commitment to the engineering field.

Eligibility Requirements
For University Studies
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens.
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Achieve at least the following in Matric:
- Level 4 for English
- Level 5 for Pure Mathematics
- Level 5 for Physical Science
- Intend to study an approved Engineering degree in 2026.
- Have conditional acceptance at a public University in South Africa.
- Not be in receipt of any other bursary funding.
- Preference will be given to candidates from designated groups in line with Eskom’s Employment Equity Plan.
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
For University of Technology Studies
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens.
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Achieve at least the following in Matric:
- Level 4 for English
- Level 4 for Pure Mathematics
- Level 4 for Physical Science
- Intend to study an approved Engineering diploma in 2026.
- Have conditional acceptance at a public University of Technology in South Africa.
- Not be receiving any other bursary funding.
- Preference may be given to designated groups.
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must submit certified copies of the following documents with their application:
- South African ID document
- Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results (if currently in Matric)
- Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
- Proof of conditional acceptance from a University or University of Technology (on official institution letterhead)
Failure to include all required documents may result in disqualification.
Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 28 days after the closing date.
- Final selection will depend on Matric final results.
- Applicants who do not receive feedback within the stipulated time should consider their application unsuccessful.
