Reporting Structure
The apprentice will report directly to the Workshop Foreman or a designated supervisor, who will oversee daily tasks, performance, and progress throughout the training period.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Diesel Mechanic Apprentice, participants will assist qualified mechanics in the repair, service, and maintenance of diesel engines and related machinery. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the maintenance and repair of diesel engines, heavy vehicles, and machinery.
- Performing routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacement.
- Using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues.
- Supporting the repair or replacement of defective parts, including brakes, transmissions, and fuel systems.
- Keeping accurate records of maintenance work, materials used, and time spent on each task.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and safe workspace.
- Gaining knowledge of environmental regulations related to hazardous materials handling.
- Learning to use workshop tools and equipment correctly and safely.
- Attending training sessions and workshops as part of ongoing skills development.
- Assisting in customer interactions when necessary to discuss vehicle issues or completed work.
- Demonstrating growth and independence in technical tasks as training progresses.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science (Maths Literacy will not be accepted).
- N2 or higher qualification in Electrical or Mechanical studies is advantageous.
- Candidates who are fresh from school and have not previously participated in any apprenticeship or learnership will be considered.
- A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.
- Must be 25 years of age or younger.
- Must be medically fit to perform physical tasks and, when required, work safely at heights.
