Learnership Overview
Successful candidates will undergo a comprehensive 12-month Weather Observation training at the SAWS Regional Training Centre in Pretoria. The programme includes both theoretical and practical components, giving participants hands-on experience in all aspects of weather observation.
After completing the training, learners may be placed at SAWS regional offices across South Africa, where they will perform weather observation duties. Because shift work may be required, learners are expected to obtain a valid driver’s licence during the learnership period at their own cost.

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Weather Observations Learnership, candidates must have:
- A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with the following minimum results:
- 50% (D symbol) or higher in Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy)
- 50% or higher in Physical Science
- 50% or higher in English
