The Sibona Ilanga Trust is a community trust that owns shares in the De Aar Solar Power Plant, established to benefit communities within a 50-kilometre radius of the plant. About the Bursary Programme
As part of its commitment to upliftment, the Sibona Ilanga Trust is offering bursaries for post-school studies at accredited South African tertiary education or training institutions. Eligible institutions include:
- Public and private TVET colleges
- Universities of Technology
- Academic universities
To date, the Trust has invested R12.1 million, funding 126 bursaries, and has allocated a further R2.5 million for the 2025/2026 financial year. This bursary programme is managed by StudyTrust.
Who Can Apply?
Applications are open to individuals who plan to or are currently studying towards qualifications in:
- Technical and skills training (e.g., boilermaker, fitter and turner, plumbing)
- Training programmes
- National certificates and diplomas
- Degree programmes
Even if you have already completed your NSC (National Senior Certificate) or NTC (National Technical Certificate) but are not currently studying, you are encouraged to apply.
Applicant Criteria
- Must be a South African citizen
- Not older than 35 years
- Must reside within 50km of the De Aar Solar Power Plant
- Must be accepted to study at a recognised public or private tertiary institution
- Matriculation (Grade 12) is required
