About the Rock Engineering Internship 2025
The Seriti Rock Engineering Internship 2025 is a fixed-term programme aimed at graduates and young professionals who want to gain practical experience in the mining industry. The internship will take place across various Seriti collieries in Emalahleni (Mpumalanga) and the Free State, offering participants an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world mining environment.
This is not just a short internship — it is a 42-month structured development programme designed to build both technical and professional skills. Interns will benefit from mentorship, projects, and formal training that prepare them for future careers in rock engineering and related fields.
Key Learning Opportunities
As part of the programme, interns will:
- Gain hands-on experiential learning in mining operations.
- Participate in a structured 42-month development plan.
- Present key learnings to the Operational Management Team at the end of each phase.
- Undertake a project in the second year, which will be formally presented on completion.
- Attend formal training courses and seminars prescribed by the programme.
- Act in other roles within the discipline as required to broaden exposure.
- Conduct research projects aimed at proposing improvements or value-add initiatives.
- Work closely with experienced technical coaches and mentors for professional growth.

Who Can Apply?
Internal Applicants
- Recognition of prior learning will be given to those with experience in mining production, geology, or mine planning.
- Advantageous qualifications and skills include:
- Strata Control Certificate in Coal (in progress or completed).
- Strong references from previous employers or academic institutions.
- Proven completion of mining-related academic projects.
- Theoretical knowledge of mining studies.
- Valid driver’s licence and Certificate of Fitness (or willingness to obtain one).
- Strong business writing, planning, and organisational abilities.
- Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office.
External Applicants
- Minimum qualifications required:
- BSc Engineering (Mining), OR
- BSc Geology (Hons), OR
- BEng Tech (Hons).
- Strong academic and project experience in the chosen field of study.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter with eagerness to learn.
- Valid driver’s licence and Certificate of Fitness (or willingness to obtain one).
Advantageous for Both Groups
- Temporary work experience in mining or a related field.
- Knowledge of Seriti’s business principles, values, and operational codes of practice.
