About the Artisan Millwright Learnership

The Sasol Millwright Learnership is a structured apprenticeship programme that blends formal training with practical workplace exposure. Learners are developed to meet industry standards and will gradually build the competence required to maintain, inspect, repair, and optimise plant and mining equipment.

Throughout the programme, learners will work under experienced artisans and supervisors while gaining exposure to real operational challenges in Sasol’s mining and plant environments.


Key Responsibilities and Training Exposure

During the learnership, learners will be trained to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating competence in discipline-specific plant, mine, and equipment areas
  • Understanding and applying plant maintenance documentation systems
  • Using planning and work management systems effectively
  • Applying basic plant and mine process knowledge relevant to the discipline
  • Complying with Safety Management Systems such as IMS and MBO
  • Applying emergency procedures when required
  • Reading, interpreting, and implementing task risk assessments
  • Identifying hazards and participating in task risk assessments
  • Attending daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments
  • Supporting business goals by meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards
  • Providing accurate feedback to supervisors on work progress
  • Participating in root cause analyses and contributing to corrective actions
  • Taking part in safety risk assessments in line with legislation and company standards
  • Maintaining good housekeeping and adhering to waste disposal procedures
  • Participating in quarterly performance appraisals to support personal development
  • Identifying personal training needs and updating development plans with approval
  • Leading by example and contributing positively to team performance
  • Assisting in the development of work instructions to improve staff competency
  • Supporting team efforts and taking initiative when required
  • Contributing to maintenance strategies and plant sustainability initiatives
  • Conducting physical inspections to maintain plant integrity
  • Participating in toolbox talks, PDAs, and RCAs to improve safety and stability
  • Ensuring maintenance history feedback is captured accurately

Minimum Educational Requirements

Applicants must meet the following educational requirements:

  • Completed Matric, N3, or an equivalent qualification
  • Mathematics, Physical Science, and English passed

Experience Requirements

  • No prior experience required
  • Up to 1 year of relevant experience will be considered advantageous
