Role Purpose

As a Practitioner Communication, you will play a critical role in enhancing employee engagement and communication within Sasol Mining’s surface and underground operational teams. Your mission will be to deliver clear, timely, and relevant messages that keep frontline staff informed, motivated, and aligned with Sasol’s safety culture and business objectives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute targeted communication plans tailored to operational teams using channels like shift briefings, noticeboards, SMS alerts, and digital displays.
  • Build employee engagement and culture through two-way communication methods such as feedback boxes and pulse surveys, collaborating closely with shift supervisors and union representatives.
  • Create diverse, accessible content including videos, newsletters, and infographics in multiple languages and formats to meet the needs of a diverse workforce.
  • Manage real-time communication during critical events such as safety alerts and operational shutdowns to ensure clarity and calm.
  • Lead onsite engagement events like Safety Day and employee recognition programs to foster team spirit and operational excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with mining safety regulations and alignment with Sasol’s branding and communication standards.
  • Monitor communication impact through metrics including employee participation and safety performance improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field (NQF Level 6/7)
  • Certification in Employee Engagement or Events Management is advantageous
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a relevant communication role, preferably within industrial or mining environments

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop communication strategies and manage crisis communication
  • Proficient with digital tools such as Canva and SharePoint
  • Fluency in local languages like isiZulu or Sesotho is highly valued
  • Data collection, analysis, and reporting skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams
  • Agile learner and action-oriented mindset
