The Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG) is inviting students who reside in the province to apply for the Provincial Transversal Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

What the Bursary Covers

The NCPG bursary provides financial support towards:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed books
  • Accommodation

Funding is allocated based on household income brackets:

  • R0 – R350 000 per annum: up to R120 000
  • R350 001 – R550 000 per annum: up to R100 000
  • R550 001 – R800 000 per annum: up to R80 000

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen residing in the Northern Cape.
  • Be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Be unemployed at the time of application.
  • Be in Matric (2025) or have already completed Matric.
  • Be studying or planning to study towards an undergraduate or first degree in an approved field.
  • Be registered or provisionally accepted at a public tertiary institution in South Africa.
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record.
  • Be financially needy (priority will be given to academically deserving students who cannot afford fees).

Documents Required

Applicants must submit certified copies (not older than 6 months) of the following:

  • South African ID document.
  • Matric results (if currently in Matric) or Matric certificate (if completed).
  • Latest academic results/transcripts (if currently studying).
  • Proof of acceptance or provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution.
  • Proof of registration (if already enrolled).
  • Curriculum plan of intended field of study.
  • Proof of parents’/guardians’/spouse’s income (salary slips, bank statements, tax certificates, or SASSA slips where applicable).
  • Supporting affidavits or documents (for unemployed parents, single parents, foster care, orphans, etc.).
