Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Communications Intern, you will be involved in:

  • Creating content for social media platforms, newsletters, and the NACOSA website
  • Drafting copy for digital platforms and internal communications
  • Maintaining content calendars and scheduling posts
  • Preparing and distributing internal communication materials (staff bulletins, announcements)
  • Collaborating with other departments to support internal messaging
  • Contributing to communication materials for events, campaigns, and programmes
  • Participating in planning and executing communication initiatives
  • Providing administrative support, including meeting coordination, filing, and note-taking
  • Assisting with logistics for design, printing, and branded materials
  • Attending team meetings and campaign briefings for practical exposure
  • Engaging in feedback and mentoring sessions for ongoing professional development

Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

  • National Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12)
  • Recent graduate with a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
  • Previous experience in student media, community communications, or advocacy work is advantageous

Technical Skills:

  • Basic understanding of digital communications, especially social media (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Basic content creation knowledge (posts, blogs, infographics, short videos)
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Word and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Express, or similar tools is advantageous
  • Strong grammar, spelling, and ability to adapt tone for different audiences

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the SEF Internship Programme, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens eligible to work in the country
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be currently unemployed and not engaged in any other internship or learnership
  • Have completed a post-secondary qualification relevant to the internship
  • Be available for the full duration of the programme
  • Not be receiving government benefits such as SRD Grant, Old Age Pension, Disability Grant, or NSFAS Funding (Child Support Grant is allowed)
