Introduction
Mafube Coal, a leading mining company in Mpumalanga, is inviting applications from unemployed South African youth for its Engineering Learnership Programme 2025 / 2026.
This programme provides an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals to gain both theoretical training and on-the-job practical experience, preparing them for a successful career in the mining and engineering fields.
Mafube Coal is a 50/50 joint venture between Thungela Resources and Exxaro Resources, operating an opencast mine primarily supplying the export market. Learners will benefit from a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and professional growth.
Learnership Streams and Reference Numbers
The following disciplines are available for 2025 / 2026:
- Electrical — REF: MAF 01 ELEC
- Fitter — REF: MAF 02 FIT
- Instrumentation — REF: MAF 03 INST
- Rigger — REF: MAF 04 RIG
- Plater — REF: MAF 05 PLAT
What the Learnership Includes
Successful candidates will participate in:
- Theoretical and practical training at CTC
- Structured workplace training at the Mafube Coal site
- Completion of all modules, assessments, and trade test requirements
Minimum Requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following:
- South African citizen
- Grade 12 plus N2 / Technical qualification with relevant trade subjects
- Knowledge of Safety Systems, Regulations, and Standards
- Willing and able to work shifts, standby, and call-outs when required
- Certificate of fitness (or able to obtain)
- Valid driver’s licence
Required N2 Subjects by Trade
- Electrician: Maths, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Trade Theory
- Fitter: Maths, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Fitter & Turning Trade Theory
- Instrumentation: Maths, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation Trade Theory
- Plater: Maths, Engineering Science, Plater Structural Steel Drawing, Plater Trade Theory
- Rigger: Maths, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Rigging Trade Theory
Responsibilities
As a learner, you will be expected to:
- Attend and complete all theoretical and workplace learning components
- Meet all performance standards, modules, and assessment requirements leading to a trade test
