Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is offering an exciting Internship Programme 2025, designed to nurture young South African talent across creative, technical, and administrative disciplines. About the Internship Programme
The JCT Internship Programme aims to equip graduates with hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional skills. Interns will work on real-world projects, gain exposure to theatre operations, and develop competencies that are highly valued in the arts, media, HR, marketing, and technical sectors.
Successful candidates will be placed in Johannesburg’s major theatres: Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Soweto Theatre (Jabulani), and Roodepoort Theatre (Florida), according to their chosen area of specialization.
Available Internship Opportunities
1. Programming Internships (x3 posts)
Interns will support the planning, coordination, and evaluation of artistic productions and events.
Qualifications Required:
- Degree/Diploma in Performing Arts, Theatre Studies, Cultural Management, or related fields
- Strong organizational skills and a passion for the performing arts
2. Stage Internship
Interns will gain practical experience in technical theatre, including lighting, sound, set construction, and backstage operations.
Qualifications Required:
- NQF Level 6/7 in Technical Theatre, Stagecraft, or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering with theatre interest
- Practical knowledge of stage equipment is an added advantage
3. Marketing Internship
Interns will assist with campaigns, audience development, branding, and ticket sales promotions.
Qualifications Required:
- Degree/Diploma in Marketing, Communications, or Business Management
- Strong research, digital marketing, and communication skills
4. Graphic Design Internship
Interns will create compelling visuals for theatre campaigns, social media, and event promotions.
Qualifications Required:
- Diploma/Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or Multimedia
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
5. Employee Relations (HR) Internship
Interns will support HR functions, employee relations, and policy compliance.
Qualifications Required:
- Degree/Diploma in Human Resource Management, Labour Relations, or Industrial Psychology
- Understanding of labour laws and HR practices
6. Marketing & Public Relations Internship
Interns will manage publicity campaigns, media relations, and theatre promotions.
Qualifications Required:
- Degree/Diploma in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism
- Excellent writing, presentation, and media engagement skills
7. Building & Security Internship
Interns will gain experience in facilities management, security coordination, and occupational safety compliance.
Qualifications Required:
- Degree/Diploma in Safety Management, Security Studies, Facilities Management, or related fields
- Knowledge of OHS regulations is advantageous
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizen, aged 18–35
- Completed relevant Diploma or Degree
- Unemployed and not previously enrolled in an internship
- Passionate about the arts and committed to professional growth
