Who Should Apply?
Hortgro encourages applications from talented and motivated individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
- Must be studying or planning to study in one of the approved fields in 2026
- Must be accepted or applying to a recognised South African tertiary institution
- Must meet the admission requirements for the chosen qualification

What’s Expected from Recipients
To continue receiving support, bursary holders must:
- Submit quarterly updates on academic progress and personal well-being
- Provide semester results on time
- Maintain good conduct both on and off campus
- Attend Hortgro functions and developmental events as required
Shortlisted? Here’s What You’ll Need to Submit
If your application moves forward, you’ll be asked to provide the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of your ID or both sides of your ID card
- Certified Matric certificate or most recent academic results
- Certified academic transcripts if already in tertiary
- Proof of tertiary registration or provisional acceptance
- Estimated breakdown of study-related costs
- Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ IDs
- Proof of household income (latest payslips or sworn affidavit)
- Proof of other bursaries or funding if applicable
- A handwritten essay about yourself, your career ambitions, and your future in agriculture
- Two contactable references
