What the Finance Internship Involves
The Finance Intern will form part of the finance team and play an active role in daily financial operations. This role is well suited to candidates who enjoy working with numbers, systems and deadlines, and who are committed to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
Reconciliations and Accuracy
The intern will complete reconciliations of all accounts every second day and clear reconciliation exception items within 48 hours. The role requires maintaining high-quality partner statements, responding to team queries within 24 hours and ensuring that all reports are accurate before being shared.
Reporting and Financial Analysis
The role includes completing, uploading and certifying month-end reconciliations by the fourth business day of each month. The intern will resolve queries raised during month-end processes, perform monthly balance confirmations for PPI and agents, and conduct financial analysis on accounts when required. Meeting deadlines consistently and communicating proactively is essential.
Systems, Processes and Controls
The intern will support the effective operation of the accounting system to ensure deadlines are met. This includes maintaining proper documentation for journals and ensuring all supporting records are stored correctly on shared drives.
Administrative and Process Support
The role involves assisting with process optimisation, task allocation and capacity management to reduce duplication and improve efficiency within the finance team.
Data Management and Accuracy
All work must be saved on OneDrive to minimise data loss. The intern is responsible for accurate data entry into the accounting system and for verifying all information for consistency and reasonableness before distribution.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have a Matric certificate. A diploma or degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field is advantageous. Preference may be given to candidates with 2 to 3 years’ experience in reconciliations, accounting or finance administration, although motivated candidates who meet the core requirements are encouraged to apply.
Technical Skills
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office is required. Knowledge of accounting or reconciliation software will be an added advantage.
