About the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary Programme 2026
Old Mutual invites passionate and high-achieving students to apply for its Actuarial Science Bursary for the 2026 academic year. This bursary supports students studying at any of the following accredited South African universities:
- North-West University
- Stellenbosch University
- University of Cape Town
- University of Pretoria
- University of the Free State
- University of the Witwatersrand
- University of Johannesburg
- University of KwaZulu-Natal
This bursary aims to nurture dedicated “maths whizzes” who are committed to excelling in the challenging field of actuarial science.

Recipients of the Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary will receive full financial support including:
- Tuition fees
- Study materials
- Accommodation and meals in university residences
- Return flights home if studying away from hometown

Old Mutual Actuarial Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the bursary, candidates must meet these minimum requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Completed or currently studying Matric
- Intend to study full-time towards an undergraduate Actuarial Science degree
- Accepted or applied at one of the designated universities above
- Achieved at least 80% in Mathematics (no Math Literacy)
- Achieved at least 60% for English HL or 70% for English FAL
- Achieved at least 70% overall average for other subjects
- Committed to qualifying as an actuary and working for Old Mutual after graduation
- Preference given to students from under-represented groups, including those with disabilities and disadvantaged backgrounds

- Certified copy of South African ID
- Latest Matric results (if currently in school) or Matric certificate (if completed)
- Proof of acceptance or conditional acceptance from a recognized university
- Full academic transcript (if currently studying)
- Completed bursary motivation form including a gamified non-time assessment
- National Benchmark Test (NBT) results (if applicable)
- One-page Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Note: Incomplete applications or missing documents will be disqualified.
Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 30 November 2025 for psychometric assessments.
- If you do not receive feedback by this date, consider your application unsuccessful.
- Successful applicants will be invited for an interview and selection day.
- Final bursary offers will be confirmed once final Matric results and proof of university acceptance are submitted.
