The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is calling on committed South Africans to apply for Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV) Vacancies. A total of 56 posts are available across various provinces, offering candidates an opportunity to contribute to justice and human rights by monitoring conditions inside correctional centres.

About the Role

The Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV) position is a 36-month contract appointment. Successful candidates will be responsible for monitoring prisons, ensuring that inmates’ rights are respected, and reporting on conditions of incarceration.

Salary: R85 620 per annum (3/8th, Level 05), plus 37% in lieu of benefits.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

A Grade 12 / Senior Certificate.
Computer literacy with accuracy in handling information.
A recommendation or nomination letter as an ICCV by a community organization (not older than 6 months).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong knowledge of Batho Pele principles.
Good communication skills (verbal and written).
Assertiveness and ability to work under pressure.
A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
Preference will be given to applicants residing near the correctional centres where posts are available.

Duties

Successful candidates will:

Visit correctional facilities daily to engage with inmates and officials.
Monitor and report on incarceration conditions.
Record and report cases of deaths, segregation, use of force, or mechanical restraints.
Support the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) during inspections and investigations.
Handle administrative tasks, including capturing complaints and preparing detailed reports.
