About the Seed Quality Testing Internship
As a Seed Quality Testing Intern, you will support the Centlab laboratory team in delivering accurate, reliable, and repeatable seed quality test results. The internship provides exposure to laboratory operations, international testing standards, and quality assurance processes that support high-quality seed production.
Interns will assist with specialised testing procedures while ensuring compliance with ISTA and ISO standards, contributing directly to agricultural quality control and innovation.
The Team You Will Be Part Of
You will join the Rosslyn laboratory Centlab team, whose primary objective is to provide timely and accurate seed quality testing results to internal and external stakeholders. The team conducts specialised tests including seed sizing, germination, vigour, and purity testing, while strictly following company policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Activities
- Conduct laboratory activities in line with applicable standards, procedures, policies, regulations, and customer specifications
- Follow ISO, ISTA, and internal protocols governing seed testing
- Assist during internal and external audits
- Ensure all testing protocols are correctly applied
Testing Data and Documentation
- Maintain quality records and documentation to demonstrate compliance with standards and procedures
- Capture daily testing data accurately and timeously in the system
Communication and Reporting
- Report non-standard test results related to quality, equipment, or testing outcomes to supervisors or managers
- Maintain reference samples and testing standards
Technical and Operational Support
- Assist with or supervise activities related to sample preparation, testing, and data input
- Coordinate with logistics teams regarding sample receiving and preparation
- Support coordinators in managing specific testing areas
General Workplace Responsibilities
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to working hours or overtime requirements
- Accept supervision and work cooperatively with colleagues
- Uphold acceptable standards of workplace conduct
Stakeholder Interaction
The role involves interaction with key internal stakeholders including:
- Supply Production and Supply Chain teams
- Research teams
- Commercial teams
Location
The internship is based at the Rosslyn Plant production facility in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Technical diploma or degree in Agriculture, Biology, or a related field is preferred
- Seed Science or Seed Physiology coursework is advantageous
- Practical agricultural training with DARLD in agronomic crops and grasses is ideal
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Computer proficiency
- Strong communication skills across diverse internal teams
- Ability to evaluate results and follow testing schedules
- Accreditation related to testing areas is advantageous
- Physical ability to lift up to approximately 27 kilograms
- Ability to operate specialised laboratory equipment
- Capacity to stand or sit for extended periods
- Willingness to work in environments with mould, dust, and treatment fumes
- Ability to supervise or assist others during testing
- Willingness to train less experienced team members
- Ability to follow company testing rules and adapt to new tasks
- Strong teamwork and cooperation skills
