CHIETA Skills Development Programmes 2025/2026

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) offers exciting opportunities for young people and workers in the chemical sector. Through learnerships, bursaries, internships, and skills programmes, CHIETA helps build practical skills and nationally recognized qualifications for those interested in chemicals, engineering, and related fields.

Programme Overview

CHIETA’s programmes target unemployed youth and employees in the chemical industry, supporting growth and sustainability. The training combines theory and hands-on experience in areas such as Chemical Operations, Process Control, Chemical Engineering, and Analytical Chemistry.

What’s Available?

  • Learnerships: Last 12 to 18 months, for candidates with Grade 12. Learn practical skills in chemical plant operations and receive a monthly stipend between R2,500 and R4,500.
  • Bursaries: Cover up to R90,000 for tuition, books, and accommodation for studies in chemical engineering or chemistry at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Applicants need Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science plus tertiary acceptance.
  • Internships: Run for 12 to 24 months, for those with a diploma or degree in relevant fields. Monthly stipends range from R2,500 to R4,500, focusing on real work experience in labs or chemical plants.
  • Skills Programmes: Short courses of 1 to 6 months, covering topics like welding or chemical plant safety, mainly for Grade 12 holders. Partial funding available but no stipend.
