About the AWS Skills Development Bursary 2026

AWS is inviting South African students to apply for the AWS Skills Development Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

This bursary supports high-achieving students with financial need, helping them gain qualifications in fields critical to the technology sector and beyond.

Undergraduate Degrees

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance)
  • Bachelor of Education (Mathematics & Science)
  • Civil / Electrical / Electronic / Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering
  • Computer Science / Computer Engineering
  • Information Technology

Postgraduate Degrees (Honours, Masters, Postgraduate Diploma)

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance)

  • Information Technology

Students with Disabilities

Bursaries are also available for any field of study at undergraduate or postgraduate level for students living with disabilities.


What the AWS Bursary Covers

This full-cost bursary covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Stationery & textbooks
  • Personal computer
  • Accommodation (residence or private)
  • Subsistence allowance

Note: Funding is capped at a specific amount per student.


Eligibility Requirements

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Plan to study full-time in 2026 towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in the listed fields
  • Be registered or intend to register at a recognised South African university
  • Achieve 75%+ for Mathematics and Physical Science in Matric
  • Achieve 65%+ for English Home Language OR 70%+ for English First Additional Language in Matric
  • Maintain a 65%+ average at tertiary level if already studying
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership potential
  • Preference given to students with disabilities, though all eligible students may apply

Required Supporting Documents (Compulsory)

  • Recent clear ID photo (head & shoulders)
  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Grade 11 final results & Matric June results (if still in school)
  • Matric certificate (if completed)
  • Full academic record (June 2025 results or latest progress report)
  • Proof of household income (payslips, affidavits, business bank statements, or SASSA letter)
  • Death certificates of parents (if applicable)
  • Divorce court order or affidavit stating child support amount (if applicable)
  • Proof of disability (if applicable)
