Anglo American’s Sishen Mine continues its drive to empower communities through education with the launch of the Teacher Development Programme for 2026. This initiative is designed to support aspiring educators in the Northern Cape by providing them with access to a teaching qualification through North-West University’s (NWU) distance learning programme.

This opportunity is open exclusively to residents of the following municipalities:
- Ga-Segonyana
- Gamagara
- Joe Morolong
- Kgatelopele
- Tsantsabane
- Griekwastad
About the Programme
The Anglo American Teacher Development Programme aims to:
- Address the shortage of qualified teachers in rural areas
- Empower local youth and education workers
- Build a sustainable network of educators who remain in and uplift their communities
Through NWU’s flexible and accredited distance learning model, selected candidates can study remotely while gaining real-world experience in educational settings.
Who Should Apply?
The programme welcomes applications from three key groups:
1. Grade 12 Learners
If you are currently in Grade 12 and dream of becoming a teacher, you are eligible to apply. The programme will assist you with registration and support your academic journey through NWU.
2. Teacher Assistants
If you are already working as a Teacher Assistant and have an Admission Point (AP) score between 26 and 30, this is a great opportunity to qualify as a teacher and take the next step in your professional journey.
3. ECD Practitioners
If you are an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioner who wants to formalise your teaching career, this programme offers the structure and support needed to obtain your teaching qualification.
