What the Programme Offers

The Electrical Apprentice Programme at AECI Plant Health offers structured hands-on training in electrical systems. The focus is on building skills in maintenance, installation, and diagnostics in line with the Merseta apprenticeship requirements.

Through this programme, apprentices will gain exposure to a range of practical tasks, such as working on 3-phase motors, performing building wiring, and ensuring all tasks meet strict safety and quality regulations.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the apprenticeship, you will be expected to:

  • Complete both the theoretical and practical modules of the programme
  • Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults and fix malfunctioning equipment
  • Support new installations and system upgrades
  • Follow all relevant safety, regulatory, and quality standards
  • Operate electrical testing equipment and maintain detailed service records
  • Participate in equipment commissioning and testing alongside the team

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the AECI Electrical Apprenticeship, applicants must meet the following:

  • Grade 12 with an N3 Electrical post-matric qualification
  • Awareness of the SANS 10142 wiring code and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSAct)
  • Understanding of the Merseta apprenticeship structure
  • Basic computer literacy and report-writing ability
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication and solid problem-solving skills
