Programme Overview
The Retail Cosmetics Learnership is designed to develop strong retail skills in beauty and cosmetics. Participants will gain essential knowledge in customer service, product promotion, and in-store merchandising. The programme helps prepare learners for real roles within Dis-Chem’s retail network.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify, applicants must have:
- A completed Matric / Grade 12 certificate
- A willingness to work flexible retail hours
- Basic computer skills (familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Beneficial but not required:
- Previous experience in a retail or beauty environment
Core Responsibilities
Stock Control
- Monitor shelf stock and rotate items to avoid expiration
- Replenish low stock and report damaged items
- Assist in stock counts and maintain order in the storeroom
Merchandising
- Keep product displays clean, tidy, and appealing
- Ensure all items are properly priced and labeled
- Help meet store sales targets and demonstrate products confidently
Customer Service
- Offer friendly and helpful service to shoppers
- Handle point-of-sale transactions at the Cosmetics counter
- Answer product questions and offer appropriate solutions
Competencies and Qualities
- Strong communication and listening skills
- A customer-first attitude and basic understanding of financial transactions
- Self-management, trustworthiness, and reliability
- A passion for sales with solid product presentation skills
Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must have a clean credit and criminal record
- Must be available to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
Stipend
Learners will receive a monthly stipend throughout the duration of the programme.
